Registration deadline for each week of camp is the Monday of the previous week.
Explore, discover, create and have fun in Memphis College of Art’s Summer Art Camp. We offer qualified teaching artists, small class sizes, a variety of media and excellent facilities. Classes range from exploratory creative expression to intensive investigation of design principles. We are committed to nurturing children’s love for creating art, whatever their age, interest or skill level may be.
THE BASICS
Weeklong sessions feature a choice of morning and afternoon classes. Half-day campers select one class; full-day campers select two: one morning class and one for the afternoon. Equipment, supplies and lunch (for full-day campers) are included in the tuition. Campers are grouped by rising grade: Primary (K-2); Intermediate (3-5); Middle School (6-8); and High School (9 and up). All classes are held in Rust Hall, Overton Park (map).

JUNIOR CAMPS

Summer Art in the Park (Germantown)

SCHEDULE
We offer flexible scheduling, with week-long sessions and morning and afternoon classes. Campers can choose to attend half day (morning or afternoon) or full day. Extended care is also available before and after camp hours for an additional fee.
Summer Art Camp (ages 5 – 18)

Half day, morning session: 9 a.m.–noon
Half day, afternoon session: 1–4 p.m.
Full day: 9 a.m.–4 p.m.
Extended care mornings: 8–9 a.m.
Extended care afternoons: 4–5 p.m.
COURSE SCHEDULES
This year’s camp includes classic favorites as well as new and exciting classes for all ages. Preschoolers explore art making in a fun, age-appropriate environment. Elementary campers can build a gnome house, design a planet or discover art fundamentals. Middle and high school students can choose from drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, design, and much more. Rising juniors and seniors can develop a portfolio in an intensive class designed to prepare them for the college application process.

Portfolio Development
Designed for students aspiring to attend a post-secondary art school, this course provides an opportunity to develop and prepare a portfolio for college applications. Students are introduced to advanced concepts in drawing and will have the opportunity to enhance their art portfolios by completing a series of drawings from direct observation. This full-day, one-week class focuses on traditional drawing techniques under the guidance of MCA’s Advanced Placement high school drawing instructor, Jonathan Hart. For rising high school Juniors and Seniors. Full-day Summer Art Camp tuition applies. Equipment, supplies and lunch included.

Memphis College of Art’s Summer Academy provides a residential studio experience for hightly motivated high school junior, senior and college freshmen students who intend to study art at the college level. The program offers a variety of hands-on studio investigation in both Fine and Design Arts curriculum. Academy participants will stay in MCA’s newest residence, Fogelman Hall, for two weeks and earn two hours of college credit.
Instruction is provided by MCA facuty and upper-level graduate students. Evening activities will focus on seeing the sights of Memphis including dinner at the Rendezvous, a walk on Beale Street, gallery tours, and more. Sessions will be offered on careers in art and portfolio preparation. Experience college living and art instruction at one of the leading art programs in the south!

Our instructors are enthusiastic about sharing the joy of art making with young people. Instructors are teaching artists with a BFA (Bachelor of Fine Arts) Degree minimum. Many of our instructors hold higher degrees and/or teaching certificates. Most classes also have a dedicated adult teaching assistant, making the adult/child ratio no greater than 1 to 8. All Summer Art Camp instructors and staff are carefully screened and subjected to a thorough background check.
TUITION
Tuition includes supplies and equipment. Exceptions, such as cameras for Digital Photography, are noted in the course descriptions. Full-day tuition includes lunch.

REGISTRATION
Registration deadline is at noon on the Monday of the previous week for each week of camp. Registration is complete only with payment in full and classes are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Classes fill quickly; registering early is strongly advised for the best class selection.

A limited number of traditional scholarships and IDEALS grants are awarded on a merit basis for Summer Art Camp, Saturday School and Portfolio Development classes.
Summer 2013 scholarship/grant application deadline is Thursday, May 2 at 4 pm.
