Memphis College of Art offers Advanced Placement scholarship classes on Saturdays for high school juniors and seniors. Instruction, all materials and College Board evaluation are FREE. Students are selected by portfolio review.
Portfolios are submitted to MCA Admissions in the fall for consideration. Jonathan Hart, AP Class Coordinator, will review all portfolios and select the 2010/2011 AP Class.
The class meets for 20 Saturdays throughout the school year from noon to 4 p.m. Students may earn college credit for their work in the AP class if their AP portfolio is nationally assessed and receives high enough marks. Many students who have been selected for the class have won scholarships to excellent colleges and universities, including Memphis College of Art. Last year MCA awarded over $100,000 in scholarship money to AP students.
MCA’s AP class is the way to advance the skills students are already acquiring in their high school art class. Their portfolios will be the strongest they can be—a definite advantage when it’s time to apply for college art scholarships.
