Memphis College of Art Debuts Horn Island 28 Exhibition

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis College of Art is proud to unveil the Horn Island 28 Exhibition, on display Aug. 17 – Sept. 28 in the Main and Lower Galleries of Rust Hall in Overton Park. A special show reception will be held on Saturday, Sept. 8, at 6–9 p.m.

This unique exhibition features work inspired by a MCA-led credited workshop on Horn Island just off the coast of Mississippi. A show like no other, these works incorporate both materials and musings from the group’s nine-day stay on the island.

“Students, alumni and faculty all shared in a spectacular trip – this year’s group was in total sync with each other and Mother Horn,” said Don DuMont, assistant professor of Design Arts and director of the Horn Island Program. “All participated in discovering many aspects of the island’s offerings including the numerous migrating and nesting birds, endless amounts aquatic wildlife and many exploring treks to east and west tips.”

The exhibition will feature island-inspired creations in a wide range of media including sketchbook/journals, painting, sculpture, photography, ceramics, drawing and metalsmithing.

Rust Hall’s Main and Lower Galleries are open 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday–Friday; 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday; 9 a.m. to noon on Sunday. Admission is free.
