Event Description

Learn the technique of lost wax casting, as used by jewelers and metalsmiths. Students will make several pieces of jewelry (rings, pendants, sculptural forms, etc.) using lost wax casting and other casting processes. Models will be made from various types of wax, then invested and burned out leaving a hollow cavity in the shape of the original. Metal is then melted and centrifugally cast into the form leaving them with the metal positive of the original piece. Additional techniques will include open face sand casting, cleaning and patinazation, and polishing. Adult Continuing Education course (non-credit).
