Students are introduced to simple press molds which will be used to cast pewter tiles with intricate patterns and shapes. The process learned from this project will then be carried over into lessons on how to make two part sand molds. Each student will cast one aluminum light switch cover and learn about the process of melting and pouring metals at 1400 degrees F. We will be experimenting with creating different textures and impressions into the sand to make our patterns, so feel free to bring small items from home (toys/action figures, golfballs, fabric lace or upholstery trim, fishing lures, jewelry or charms, etc.) Items will be provided in class for you to use as well. Students must supply their own safety glasses, leather work gloves, and leather work boots for this class. Adult Continuing Education course (non-credit). CE 3205 / Register by Mar. 7
