The focus of this course is the basics of metalsmithing, as used by jewelers and craftsmen. Techniques covered include sawing/piercing, layout and design, basic forming, soldering, cold joinery, surfacing techniques, finishing and basic cold forging techniques. Projects may include small box forms, twisted wire bracelets, belt buckles, hollow formed rings, textured earrings and hemispherical beads. Brass, bronze and copper are used for all projects. Those wishing to use silver or other metals must purchase their own materials. Adult Continuing Education course (non-credit).
