New York-based freelance photographer hosts free live shoot and lecture

WHAT:            Visiting Artist lecture by Erik Valind, a freelance photographer based out of New York City specializing in commercial lifestyle photography and environmental portraiture. The lecture is free and open to the public.

  • Author and photographer of the books Portrait Photography: From Snapshots to Great Shots (2014, Peachpit Press) and Shooting in Sh*tty Light: The Top Ten Worst Photography Lighting Situations and How to Conquer Them (2012, Peachpit Press; co-author Lindsay Adler)
  • Originally from Treasure Island, Florida, Valind travels to share his visual approach, techniques and passion for photography at international photo conferences and colleges around the nation.
  • Lecture is sponsored by Tamron, the world’s most awarded photographic lens company, as part of their 2017 College Tour.

WHY:               Since its inception in 1936, MCA has hosted exhibits for the community as part of its commitment to fostering the arts in the city. The college hosts numerous artists and groups for exhibitions throughout the year, which broadens the sphere of artistic exposure for both MCA students and the city. Valind’s lecture will be an educational opportunity for MCA students and individuals with an interest in photography in the Memphis area.
