Memphis College of Art Presents Côte d’Azur, France at Playhouse on the Square

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis College of Art presents Côte d’Azur, France, an exhibition of work from students and faculty who recently traveled to France’s Mediterranean coast, April 29–June 5 at the MCA Gallery in Playhouse on the Square, 66 S. Cooper St. The artists will host a reception on Friday, May 6 from 5–6:30 p.m.

Côte d’Azur is the result of an 8-day trip to Southern France that MCA students, faculty, and alumni took last month over Spring Break. The trip submerged travelers into a landscape characterized by a mild climate with clear skies, dramatic scenery and lush gardens—sights that once inspired some of history’s most famous artists including Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Henri Matisse, Marc Chagall and Paul Cézanne, among many others.

The featured artists developed sketches from their trip into completed works of art for this exhibition. Artists include MCA students Darcie Beeman-Black, Abbey Bratcher, Heather Coleman, Shelley Doss, Elaine Fleming, Alison Johnson, Emily Martinez, Lindsey Mashburn, Jeremiah Mills, Katie Schwehr, Kayla Selby and Noah Simon, as well as Instructor Adam Hawk and several other artists who traveled with the group.

All MCA exhibitions and receptions are free and open to the public. Gallery hours for Côte d’Azur are Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m.–5 p.m., Sunday from 1–5 p.m. and on show nights. For more information, visit
