MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis College of Art proudly announces the opening of three new exhibitions on Oct. 5, 2012.

In the Rust Hall Main Gallery (Overton Park) will be the 2012 Alumni Invitational Exhibition. This exhibition is curated by Beth Edwards, painting professor at the University of Memphis, and will feature hand-picked works from MCA alumni over a span of decades. The show runs through Nov. 4, and the opening reception is on Thursday, Oct. 11, 5–7 p.m.

“Upon looking at the work that I selected for this show, I was struck by how much of the work peripherally or directly concerns the position of nature at the hands of man and nature’s resultant vulnerability,” said Edwards in her juror statement, going on to describe the natural world themes present in the Invitational’s pieces.

Also, in the Rust Hall Alumni Gallery (Overton Park) will be an exhibit by MCA alumna and painter Janice Albertine. This show also runs through Nov. 4, and the opening reception is on Thursday, Oct. 11, 5–7 p.m.

In the Rust Hall Lower Gallery (Overton Park) will be a special selection of student work from the Sculpture Department. This show also runs through Nov. 4.

“I’m looking forward to October and bringing these three exhibitions to Rust Hall,” said Cat Peña, coordinator of exhibitions and lectures at Memphis College of Art. “These three shows provide such an eclectic mix of media and types of artists, and I especially love when we have current and past student work showing adjacent to each other. It really shows what MCA is all about.”
