Katie McWeeney Exhibition At Playhouse on the Square
MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis College of Art announces the opening of What If…Explorations of Possibility and Connection by Katie McWeeney on Aug. 7 at Playhouse on the Square, 66 S. Cooper St. The exhibition will continue on view through Sept. 15.
McWeeney received her BFA from Louisiana Tech University in 2009 and her MFA from Memphis College of Art in 2013. She currently works at Crosstown Arts as a gallery and events assistant and maintains her art practice from her home studio.
“My work is an exploration of the human condition, specifically, the innate need to connect to others and understand self,” says McWeeney. “The work discusses the process of searching, rather than attaining results,” says McWeeney. “I create mental maps of layered resin, hand drawn elements and collage to discuss both limits and possibilities of time, needs of being in control and adaptations to change.
Playhouse’s MCA Gallery is open Monday to Saturday from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m., Sunday from 1–5 p.m. and on show nights.
