Graduate Art Education Department to Host Open House April 13

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The graduate Art Education Department at Memphis College of Art will host an Open House for prospective students Wednesday, April 13 from 5–7 p.m. in the Nesin Graduate School, 477 S. Main St. The event is free and open to anyone interested in becoming an art educator.

Guests attending the Open House will learn more about how MCA’s Art Education programs prepare students to become art educators in schools, museums and community organizations. Director of Art Education Programs Dr. Shannon Elliott and Assistant Professor Dr. Angela Christopher will present opportunities available to students through the program in combining studio practices with intellectual and professional experiences. Guests will also be able to speak directly with students currently enrolled in Art Education programs.

Memphis College of Art offers graduate-level programs for Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) and Master of Arts in Education (MAArtEd) degrees. Non-degree seeking programs include Transitional Licensure and Plus 30 Semester Hours. Artists and teachers in the programs learn to critically analyze and synthesize artistic and educational theory and practice. Courses are taught with the goal of equipping educators to teach like an artist by creating meaningful and relevant art experiences for their students.
