MCA is committed to creating an environment where all students reach their full potential as artists, creative problem-solvers, innovative thinkers, and doers. Sixty-percent of MCA students are deemed low-income, and approximately twenty-four percent are the first in their families to attend a post-secondary institution. In the last completed academic year, MCA provided $4.9M in institutional scholarships to ensure talented young adults have the opportunity to cultivate their artistic and critical thinking skills, and reap the life-long benefits post-secondary degrees afford. To augment its institutional investment in scholarships, MCA relies on the generosity of not only Annual Fund donors, but those who wish specifically to provide merit and/or need-based scholarships to worthy students. Scholarships provide life-altering and life-long benefits to students who otherwise may not have the financial means to continue in their education. They truly are the “gifts that keep on giving” … for a lifetime.
There are several ways to provide scholarship support:
Endowed Named Scholarship Funds
Endowed Scholarship Funds are established with a contribution of $25,000 or more. These permanent funds provide a scholarship each year; and they also continue to grow in value since only a portion of the income they generate is awarded annually in scholarship support. Endowed scholarship funds may honor a family member, mentor, or friends of the college and may be funded with a single gift, gifts over a number of years, or a bequest.
Annual Named Scholarships
Individuals and corporations can create a named scholarship, in their own name or in honor of another, by making a commitment of $2,000 per year, for four or more years. These funds will be expended in full each year and therefore earn no income.
For each of the two above scholarships donors may establish award criteria (Minimum GPA, area of study, etc.) or may allow the college to distribute funds based on student need. Please contact Laura Hine, VP for Advancement to learn more about these scholarship donation opportunities.
Even with financial aid packages that include MCA awarded institutional scholarships, work-study, and loans, some students struggle to cover the remaining costs of their educations. Juniors and seniors are particularly at-risk as they have added expenses associated with projects and exhibitions. Your donation of $500 or more to the Attainment Scholarship fund help to remove the financial barrier to degree attainment for hard-working, economically challenged juniors and seniors to ensure the positive, life-changing consequences that accompany post-secondary degree attainment. If you wish to make an Attainment Scholarship donation, please indicate in the “Other” section of the giving form
MCA General Scholarship Fund
Donors may make gifts to MCA’s general scholarship fund in any amount to support the award of merit and need based scholarships to students, from freshmen to senior year. These scholarships are critical to the vast majority of students’ ability to attend MCA.
