Fred Burton Presents Faculty Lecture at Memphis College of Art

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis College of Art will present MCA faculty member Fred Burton in a special lecture on Tuesday, Nov. 12 at 7 p.m. in the Callicott Auditorium, 1930 Poplar Ave., Overton Park. The lecture is free and open to the public.

Burton’s presentation is titled Travelogue and will include images illustrating how his travels to France, North Africa, Ireland and the West Indies have influenced the numerous changes in his art making over the past 35 years.

Burton is a professor of Painting and Drawing at MCA, where he has taught since 1987. His paintings, drawings and woodcuts have been exhibited overseas in Paris and Vence, France; London; and in the United States in New York City; Chicago; Houston; Kansas City; Lincoln; and Orlando. Burton has held numerous residencies including the Edward Albee Foundation in Montauk, Long Island, N.Y.; the Michael Karolyi Foundation in Vence, France; Altos de Chavon in the Dominican Republic; the Tyron Guthrie Center in County Monaghan, Ireland; the Millay Colony for the Arts at Steepletop in Austerlitz, N.Y.; the Ragdale Foundation in Lake Forest, Ill.; the Woodstock School of Art in Woodstock, N.Y.; the Morris Graves Foundation in Loleta, Calif.; and the Vermont Studio Center in Johnson, Vt.

Burton has written art criticism for Art Papers, The Commercial Appeal, and Number.
