Reception: Rumination/Adornment

October 27 @ 6:00 pm8:00 pm

A reception for the exhibit Rumination/Adornment will be held from 6-8pm on Friday, October 27 at Sue Layman Designs Gallery. The exhibit is on view from October 27 to November 26.

Robin Jayne Henderson is a mixed media artist with an archival impulse. She is a collector of cast-offs: objects, images, and the indexical marks left behind in the world, unnoticed by their makers. Materials that others might throw away are given new life in Henderson’s work. In combining images, text, indexical marks along with objects, Henderson makes physical the random connections and associations taking place within the subconscious. It is a way for her to create markers in her memory about the relationships and events in her life, and to explore the memories already embedded within her subconscious. She draws inspiration from a wide variety of cultural sources and combines them to create new meaning.

Dilland Gregory’s work addresses both that jewelry is as high of an art form as any of the fine arts, and that a modern dandyism should be embraced by the western man, rather than the avoidance or outright demonization of adornment and flamboyance we tend to see in America. Using the bead setting and pave technique common to high fashion and luxury jewelry design, Gregory creates jewelry that is both sculptural and cultural. He draws many of his design styles from the Art Nouveau and Deco movements, but with a distinctly modern twist of futuristic geometric forms and lines to comment on our current period of which jewelry tends to be effeminate. Gregory enjoys working in precious materials partially due to the inherent worth and longevity of the materials themselves.

Sue Layman Lightman’s exhibit “With Emotion” will also be on view on the second floor of the gallery. Visit Sue Layman Designs for details.
