Lost Worlds by Joseph Holsapple

Holsapple’s work in Lost Worlds explores the subject of still life painting as a convergence of memory, imagination and perception. His oil paintings feature subjects such as toys and common household items, painted from memory and observation, which evoke the domesticity of childhood. “The space is dreamlike and suffused with an ethereal light that lends the objects a poetic resonance,” said Holsapple. “The objects accumulate as I paint, resulting in an anxious clutter of discarded items—some described in detail, others left as half-formed thoughts or faded memories.” Read more…

Featured works in Lost Worlds will be available for purchase. Proceeds will support the artist directly, as well as MCA’s scholarship fund.
Lost Worlds is one of many exhibitions that MCA hosts for the community throughout the year. The show will run concurrently with John Harlan Norris’ exhibition Cons and Pros in the Rust Hall Main Gallery. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m.–5 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m.–4 p.m., and Sunday noon–4 p.m. All MCA exhibitions, receptions and lectures are free and open to the public.
