deep sorrow, especially that caused by someone’s death.
It is difficult to talk about my work without talking about my grief. My paintings are emotive abstractions that play with the female form, florals, and texture. They often happen in wild moments after weeks of preparing (and avoiding).
I lost a lot of my family in recent years, and I have seen a lot of suffering and a lot of sudden loss. I have also fallen in love, traveled the country, and grown deeply and truly as a person. All of this goes into the work. It cannot be contained.
Kristen Rambo is a painter living and working in Memphis, TN. She graduated with honors from the Memphis College of Art and is now working out of Art Factory in the historic Cooper-Young neighborhood.
A reception for the exhibit will be held on September 22 from 5-7pm.
