39. El Nopal: Installations by Fidencio Fifield-Perez
February 13, 2017 – April 18, 2017
Fidencio Fifield-Perez (formerly Martínez) presents his exhibition 39. El Nopal: No one visits the nopal until it bears fruit in the Rust Hall Main Gallery. He will present a Visiting Artist lecture in conjunction with his show on March 2, and a reception will take place March 3 from 6-8 p.m. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m.; Saturday, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.; and Sunday, noon-4 p.m.
Fifield-Perez’s work focuses on labor, societal perceptions of Los Invisibles, and maps as a simulation of reality. His work reflects on government practices toward the Latino community that he views as exploitative, marginalizing, and reductive. As an undocumented immigrant, Fifield-Perez is acutely aware of the debate over politicized borders and of those who must traverse them.
**NOTE: Due to an event taking place in Rust Hall, 39. El Nopal will not be open for viewing Friday, April 7– Sunday, April 9. The gallery will reopen to the public on Monday, April 10 at 10 a.m. We apologize for this inconvenience, and thank you for your understanding and patience.
