Colleen Couch-Smith Exhibition At Playhouse on the Square

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis College of Art announces the opening of Taking Hold by Colleen Couch-Smith on Sept. 20 at Playhouse on the Square, 66 S. Cooper St. The exhibition will continue on view through Nov. 3.

Couch-Smith received her BFA in sculpture from Memphis College of Art in 2000. Couch-Smith runs Rock, Paper, Scissors and currently teaches papermaking classes at MCA.

In Taking Hold, “the works are done in handmade paper combined with found objects,” says Couch-Smith. “The work reflects patterns in nature left behind by organisms which use other organisms as a host.”

Playhouse’s MCA Gallery is open Monday to Saturday from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m., Sunday from 1–5 p.m. and on show nights.
