ArtsZone Scholars to Create Mural for Memphis Greenline

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The corner of Marble Avenue and Danny Thomas Boulevard will be a hub of activity this weekend (April 1–3) as five MCA students, under the direction of lead artist and MCA Assistant Professor Cat Normoyle, create a mural for the Greater Memphis Greenline.

The project is made possible through a grant from ArtsZone, a collaboration between AutoZone and ArtsMemphis to support public art projects in underserved areas of Memphis. The grant provides scholarships for five students, and provides an opportunity for professional development. Students named as 2016 ArtsZone Scholars include Dominique Carr, Elizabeth Hefner, Tomica Lake, Jacob Lambert, and Cortez Totton.

The wall on which the students will paint is owned by Iskiwitz Metals, a privately owned company specializing in commercial and industrial metal recycling. The owners of Iskiwitz Metals are assisting in preparing the wall for painting, and the Greater Memphis Greenline is sponsoring materials for the project.

In progress photos of the project will be posted throughout the weekend on Twitter (@memphisart) and Instagram (@memphiscollegeofart).
