Soyoung Park is an assistant professor of Liberal Arts at MCA. She specializes in American literature and feminist theory. Her research reflects her interests in a cluster of fields: trauma studies, sexuality studies and ethnic minority literature. Her dissertation analyzes the jarring concurrence of female erotic desire and sexual trauma at the intersections of race, class, ethnicity and nation in contemporary American fictions. Her current research interests lie in the trope of “home” and transnational sexuality in ethnic minority women’s narratives. She published “‘Survival is the Least of My Desires’: Testimony, Shame, and Desire in Dorothy Allison’s Bastard Out of Carolina” in the Fall 2010 issue of Feminist Studies in English Literature.
At MCA, she teaches Literature Survey, African American Literature, Contemporary Novel, Asian American Literature, Race, Class, Gender and Sexuality, and Introduction to Women’s Studies. She also teaches a graduate seminar on the representation of trauma.
