Position Opening for:

Vice-President and Chief Financial Officer (CFO)

Memphis College of Art (MCA) is seeking a qualified professional to serve as the organization’s Vice-President and Chief Financial Officer. At the direction of the President and Board of Trustees, the CFO will be responsible for the management of all aspects of MCA’s finances, as well as various aspects of MCA’s operations.

Reporting to and under the direction of the President of MCA and its Board of Trustees, the CFO will oversee all accounting, financial reporting and treasury functions. The CFO has primary responsibility for the preparation/management of MCA’s books and records and the preparation of the monthly/quarterly/annual financial statements and tax reporting. The CFO works with senior management personnel to develop an annual financial budget prior to the commencement of MCA’s fiscal year and to have that budget approved by the MCA Board of Trustees.
The CFO works closely with the Board’s Finance Committee to ensure the Committee members are fully aligned with the budgeting process and assumptions inherent in the budget and to obtain the Finance Committee’s approval of such. The CFO will continue to build and manage effective and streamlined financial systems and be responsible for the development and submission of all financial reports and tax reporting required by federal, state or accrediting body regulations.

Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Ensure accurate and timely accounting and financial reports, including the preparation of the monthly/quarterly/annual financial statements.
  • Prepare monthly and annual financial reporting materials and metrics for the MCA Board of Trustees and its Finance Committee, in such detail as determined by the President and the Finance Committee.
  • Oversee budgeting, financial forecasting, and cash flow for the operation of MCA, Including the financial administration of existing programs and proposed new programs.
  • Oversee all treasury responsibilities – cash accounts and management, debt financing, and interface with lending institutions.
  • Oversee all tax reporting and compliance, including working with MCA’s accounting firm to prepare annual Form 990.
  • Review MCA’s financial performance versus plan and prior year to identify variances and trends requiring attention. Be prepared to discuss financial performance versus expectation and escalate significant matters to the President for resolution.
  • Hire and oversee the accounting and financial personnel necessary for the efficient and sound management of MCA’s Business Office (finance and accounting department).
  • Coordinate all audit activities, including being MCA’s primary interface with external auditors.
  • Oversee and manage director level employees in the following areas of operations: Facilities and HR; as well as serve as the internal point person for the IT outsource firm with whom MCA is contracted to ensure MCA’s IT needs are being addressed.
  • Such other duties as may be assigned from time to time by the President and/or Board of Trustees.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 7 years experience in a senior financial management role; Higher Education experience is not required, but will provide an advantage
  • CPA designation required
  • Degree in Accounting/Finance.
  • Up to date knowledge of current financial and accounting computer applications.
  • Excellent verbal, analytical, organizational and written skills.

Position Opening for:

Associate Vice President for College Advancement

Memphis College of Art is looking for a dynamic and accomplished leader to fill the position of Associate Vice President of College Advancement. This position will work collaboratively with the college president to design and execute a comprehensive fundraising strategy to support the college’s mission and goals. We are looking for an experienced development professional to provide leadership and direction for all fundraising efforts.

At the direction of the president, The Associate Vice President of College Advancement will be responsible for the supervision and oversight of all advancement operations of the college including, but not limited to the following areas and programs:

  • All aspects of fundraising and financial support for the college, including the MCA Annual Fund, major gifts, prospect research, foundation research, grant applications, corporate sponsorship and solicitation, and capital campaigns
  • Oversight and responsibility for advancement data and financial records
  • Oversight of activities and development of Alumni Coordinator and Alumni Association
  • Planning and leading special events, donor recognition, the annual Holiday Bazaar, and other fundraising events
  • Manage and direct grant writing and submission, to include oversight of independent grant writer
  • Serve as staff liaison to the Trustees Advancement Committee
  • Work collaboratively with senior level administrative team and Board of Trustees
  • Any additional duties assigned by the president

Candidates should possess the following qualifications:

  • At least 3 years of fundraising / development experience
  • A proven track record of success
  • Outstanding interpersonal and intercultural communication skills
  • Exceptional verbal communication skills and ability to participate in public speaking events
  • The position requires the ability to multi-task and work collaboratively with various constituencies
  • Ability to manage and work with team members – Grant Writer, Alumni Coordinator and Director of Events

Program Manager, Community Education

Memphis College of Art is looking for a dynamic, passionate individual to be primarily responsible for managing Community Education (non-credit) art programs for adults and children.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Assists in planning, scheduling and implementing Community Education classes, camps
    and workshops
  • Assists in managing busy office environment and participates in customer service
  • Assists with registration management system
  • Manages private lesson students and instructors
  • Assists with recruiting instructors and hourly staff
  • Directly manages programs such as Saturday School and Summer Art Camp
  • Supervises program staff
  • Evaluates program and staff
  • Interacts with the public on behalf of CE department
  • Represents CE department at community events
  • Manages department’s art supplies, including ordering, organizing storage, and
    compliance with EPA/OSHA regulations
  • Stays informed of trends, issues and best practices in art education
  • Assists Director of Community Education in department strategic planning
  • Exhibits willingness to perform whatever duties are necessary to develop and maintain
    CE program, even if not specifically stated in the job description

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
  • At least two prior seasons of administrative or supervisory experience in an organized
    camp or youth program
  • Must be at least 25 years of age
  • Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification required
  • Ability to work Saturdays, evenings and weekends on a regular basis
  • Customer service experience
  • Teaching experience preferred
  • Background/degree in art education preferred
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite in a Mac environment

Campus Safety Officer

Memphis College of Art seeks an experienced, full-time Campus Safety Officer. Working under the supervision of the Campus Safety Director, the Campus Safety Officer is responsible for performing assigned duties during the day, evening or weekend on any MCA campus as assigned. Qualified candidates should have a proven background in security and be comfortable in a college environment. Law enforcement background is a plus.

Requirements:

  • Meet or exceed the requirements of the State of TN Dept. of Commerce and Insurance
  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • High School diploma or equivalency
  • Knowledge of campus policies and city, county and state laws
  • Knowledge of effective methods of investigations
  • Knowledge of geographic area of campus
  • Ability to complete reports relating to an incident
  • Ability to ascertain facts by personal contact, observation and the examination of records
  • Basic knowledge of computer operation
  • Clear criminal background with no felonies

Duties:

  • Foot/mobile patrol through college properties
  • Locking and unlocking of doors
  • Investigate suspected crimes, report findings
  • Investigate incidents involving persons or property; report probably cause of incidents; pursue appropriate course of action

Adjunct Instructors for Art Education Programs

Requirements: Terminal degree (EdD, or PhD) in either education or art education with a strong background in K-12 art instruction to meet SACSCOC, NCATE and Tennessee State Board of Examiner’s requirements. Candidates must be effective in communication; have strong organizational and writing skills, be willing to work in the evening and possibly in the summer months; and be open to evaluation and critique.

Community Education Instructor

Memphis College of Art seeks Community Education Instructors for the Summer of 2017. Instructors report to the Director of Community Education and is primarily responsible for providing visual arts instruction for youth and/or non-degree-seeking adults.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Plans, prepares and implements visual arts courses for youth and/or non-degree-seeking adults
  • Understands and applies best practices in art education
  • Provides a safe environment for students
  • Interacts with students, parents and the public on behalf of CE department
  • Demonstrates the proper use of facilities, equipment, supplies and resources
  • Complies with safe studio practices and EPA/OSHA regulations

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Participates in program evaluation
  • Reviews and retains student records
  • Records student attendance
  • Completes required in-person training
  • May be required to assist with installation of student exhibitions
  • Performs other various duties as may be assigned

REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge and Experience:

  • BFA in visual art (MFA or MAT preferred)

  • A minimum of 2 years teaching experience or public program experience
  • Understands and promotes student learning outcomes in youth development or lifelong learning
  • Current adult and/or pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED certification preferred
