Position Opening for:

ADJUNCT DRAWING INSTRUCTORS

Memphis College of Art seeks adjunct faculty to teach introductory-level and life drawing classes.  Drawing 1 and 2 are part of a rigorous Foundations program and based wholly on traditional drawing from observation.  Knowledge of linear perspective is necessary.  Drawing 1 is focused on line while Drawing 2 deals with value studies in a variety of materials and techniques.

Life Drawing is an upper-level course and involves line and value studies from the nude in a variety of materials and techniques.  The focus of this class is on the structure of the human figure through planar development and the convincing representation of the figure in space.

MFA preferred, BFA required.  Experience teaching is preferred.

Position Opening for:

COORDINATOR OF GALLERIES, EXHIBITIONS AND LECTURES

The Coordinator of Galleries, Exhibitions, and Lectures works under the direct supervision of the Dean/VPAA and Faculty Galleries, Exhibitions, and Lectures Committee.  Collaboration with Advancement Office is also important.  Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:  Coordinating and scheduling exhibitions for all MCA galleries (Hyde, Rust Hall Main, Rust Hall Student, Alumni, Brody, Gibson Hall) with input and approval of GEL Committee.  Directing installation, de-installation, dismantling, crating and shipping of exhibitions.  Directing on-site gallery events.  Managing inventory of gallery objects and equipment.  Collaborating with GEL Committee to design and schedule annual Visiting Artist Lecture Series.  Oversee recording of lectures and deposit of them in the Lewis Library.  Making arrangements for travel and housing of visiting artists/lecturers.  Supervising one or two Graduate Assistants assigned to the gallery.

Qualifications:
Knowledge of standard gallery management and curatorial practices.
Preference for MFA in studio art or MA in Art History or related field.
Excellent verbal, written, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to manage budget.
Physical ability and willingness to participate in installation and de-installation of all exhibitions.
Flexibility to work nights and weekends when necessary.
Work experience in academic environment.

ADJUNCT INSTRUCTORS NEEDED FOR ART EDUCATION PROGRAMS:

Requirements: Terminal degree (EdD, or PhD) in either education or art education with a strong background in K-12 art instruction to meet SACSCOC, NCATE and Tennessee State Board of Examiner’s requirements. Candidates must be effective in communication; have strong organizational and writing skills, be willing to work in the evening and possibly in the summer months; and be open to evaluation and critique.

ASSISTANT (POSSIBLY ASSOCIATE) PROFESSOR – ANIMATION

Memphis College of Art invites applications for a full-time (3/3), long-term renewable contract appointment at the Assistant (possibly Associate) Professor level in Animation beginning August 2014. An MFA in Animation or a closely related field is required by the date of the appointment.

Candidates should be deeply engaged with drawing as related to the field of animation and demonstrate in-depth practical and theoretical knowledge of animation production. Commitment to both traditional and digital methods of animation is necessary. The ideal candidate will have secondary areas of interest in one or more of the following: Character Design, Storytelling, Storyboarding, Stop Motion Animation, Experimental Animation, Sound Design, 3D Character Modeling, 3D Character Animation, and/or Character Rigging. Teaching experience beyond the graduate TA level is desirable. In addition to teaching, responsibilities include undergraduate and graduate advising, studio critiques, course and program development and assessment, recruitment, and committee membership.

The ideal candidate will be able to teach advanced courses in two or more of the following areas: Prehistoric, Ancient, Medieval, Byzantine, Renaissance, Baroque, African, Asian, Islamic, or Pre-Columbian.
