Position Opening for:

Director of Communications & Marketing

Memphis College of Art seeks a Director of Communications and Marketing to drive overall communication and marketing strategies to ensure strategic goals are met; build and maintain brand awareness through innovative marketing and communications materials; and create and sustain an outstanding positive image of the college through well-defined integrated marketing and communications strategies and techniques.

The Director of Communications and Marketing must be a natural “storyteller”, a bold thinker and doer, who is one step ahead of the trends, able to innovate, produce and execute compelling marketing and communications programs with robust energy and creativity.

The Director of Communications and Marketing will serve as the lead of the communications/marketing department, and will be a member of the President’s Cabinet.

Responsibilities

  • Play a critical leadership role to achieve the ambitious goals of the college’s strategic plan
  • Develop and execute an institutional communications plan designed to build the awareness and reputation of the college among target audiences, with particular emphasis on marketing to prospective students (admissions)
  • Develop and implement focused messages across multiple platforms to elevate the college’s image and reputation, with the ultimate goal of increasing tuition and non-tuition revenues
  • Develop and execute communications/marketing strategies across an array of media – including print, web, email, social media, mobile, advertising, public relations, and direct marketing channels – to reach the school’s primary external audiences (prospective students, alumni, donors and prospective donors, corporate and community partners, and the media) and internal audiences (faculty, staff, and students)
  • Establish rapport and work in partnership with internal department constituents (Office of the President, Academic Affairs, Admissions, Advancement, Galleries, Exhibitions and Lectures (GEL), Community Education, Board of Trustees, etc.) to serve the communications and marketing needs of these constituents, with the goal of exceeding their expectations
  • Carry out market research, test effectiveness of existing communications, and monitor market and competitor activities to identify strategies for new marketing initiatives
  • Serve as an articulate and effective spokesperson for the college
  • Develop and manage the operating budget for communications/marketing department, with emphasis on ROI
  • Contract with vendors and manage creative, technology, and other vendor relationships
  • As opportunities present, recruit top-notch staff to the communications/marketing department. Provide direction to department’s staff, aligning all activities with top-level objectives. Supervise the work of staff to ensure all efforts are coordinated and contribute to the short- and long-term goals of the college. Establish and model performance expectations and standards to foster a positive, high service, and innovative culture within the department

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field
  • Outstanding oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong, persuasive communicator that inspires new kinds of thinking
  • Demonstrated success in developing and implementing an integrated marketing and communications strategy, translating strategy into an operational plan, and using analytics to assess effectiveness
  • Demonstrated best-in-class use of both traditional and new media, including use of emerging technologies
  • Proven ability to handle multiple initiatives simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collaboratively with internal stakeholders and senior-level executives to advance an institution’s goals
  • Experience developing and managing a communications/marketing plan budget, with emphasis on ROI
  • Experience managing a communications/marketing staff, with a natural inclination toward coaching, developing and motivating others
  • The ideal candidate will have some fluency in and enjoyment of the visual arts
  • While not required, experience in the higher education arena will be a plus

Position Opening for:

Campus Safety Officer

Memphis College of Art seeks an experienced, full-time Campus Safety Officer. Working under the supervision of the Campus Safety Director, the Campus Safety Officer is responsible for performing assigned duties during the day, evening or weekend on any MCA campus as assigned. Qualified candidates should have a proven background in security and be comfortable in a college environment. Law enforcement background is a plus.

Requirements:

  • Meet or exceed the requirements of the State of TN Dept. of Commerce and Insurance
  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • High School diploma or equivalency
  • Knowledge of campus policies and city, county and state laws
  • Knowledge of effective methods of investigations
  • Knowledge of geographic area of campus
  • Ability to complete reports relating to an incident
  • Ability to ascertain facts by personal contact, observation and the examination of records
  • Basic knowledge of computer operation
  • Clear criminal background with no felonies

Duties:

  • Foot/mobile patrol through college properties
  • Locking and unlocking of doors
  • Investigate suspected crimes, report findings
  • Investigate incidents involving persons or property; report probably cause of incidents; pursue appropriate course of action
  • Issue citations for parking violations
  • Safety inspections of campus properties
  • Evaluate complaint and emergency-request information to determine response requirements
  • Other duties as assigned

Position Opening For:

Adjunct Drawing Instructors

Memphis College of Art seeks adjunct (part-time) faculty to teach introductory-level classes. Employment is on a semester-to-semester basis. Drawing 1 and 2 are part of a rigorous Foundations program based wholly on traditional drawing from observation. Knowledge of linear perspective is required. Drawing 1 is focused on line while Drawing 2 deals with value studies in a variety of materials and techniques

Due to accreditation standards, MFA preferred, BFA considered. Experience teaching is necessary.

Adjunct Instructors for Art Education Programs

Requirements: Terminal degree (EdD, or PhD) in either education or art education with a strong background in K-12 art instruction to meet SACSCOC, NCATE and Tennessee State Board of Examiner’s requirements. Candidates must be effective in communication; have strong organizational and writing skills, be willing to work in the evening and possibly in the summer months; and be open to evaluation and critique.
