ART EDUCATION DIRECTOR
Position Summary:
Memphis College of Art is an independent college of art and design located in Tennessee. The college is seeking a Visiting Assistant Professor of Art Education to teach and administer the Graduate Art Education Programs beginning July 2013. This will be a one-year appointment with possibility for renewal. This position offers the unique opportunity to manage art education programs outside of a traditional university setting and requires the candidate to work closely with students, local school systems, the state department, and community art partners in a diverse urban setting.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Teach two graduate courses per semester including the graduate thesis course. Other courses could include methods, technology or survey courses specific to art education. Additional responsibilities include participation in student recruitment and advising, program development, working with school and community partners, and participation in college committees. Candidates will also be responsible for coordinating program, state, and federal evaluations and reports.
Candidates are also expected to maintain active membership and participate in professional organizations.
Minimum Qualifications:
Candidates must have a Doctorate in Art Education or related education field with experience in art (ABD considered with evidence of completion by time of hire). All candidates are required to have at least 3 years of K-12 teaching experience with a preference to those who have experience teaching art across a variety of grade levels. College level teaching experience and/or administrative experience (college or k-12) is preferred. Candidates should understand traditional and alternative licensing procedures.
Candidates should have proven leadership and organizational skills. Have previous experience with program and candidate evaluation and knowledge of Tennessee Teacher Preparation requirements. Candidates must be committed to the highest ethical standards of the profession.

Responsibilities include: Student activities and events, personal counseling, and supervision of the student residences. CAMPUS SAFETY OFFICER
Memphis College of Art seeks experienced, professional campus safety officers.
Qualified candidates should have a proven background in security and be comfortable in a college environment. Law enforcement background is a plus. Must be detail oriented, knowledgeable in general first aid, have a TN state license, and valid driver’s license. Candidate must possess high ethical standards with an established reputation for being open, honest and fair; respects and encourages diversity, works well with others, and sets an example through actions and words.

ADJUNCT INSTRUCTORS NEEDED FOR ART EDUCATION PROGRAMS:
Requirements: Terminal degree (EdD, or PhD) in either education or art education with a strong background in K-12 art instruction to meet SACSCOC, NCATE and Tennessee State Board of Examiner’s requirements. Candidates must be effective in communication; have strong organizational and writing skills, be willing to work in the evening and possibly in the summer months; and be open to evaluation and critique.
