Campus Safety Officer

Memphis College of Art seeks an experienced, full-time Campus Safety Officer. Working under the supervision of the Campus Safety Director, the Campus Safety Officer is responsible for performing assigned duties during the day, evening or weekend on any MCA campus as assigned. Qualified candidates should have a proven background in security and be comfortable in a college environment. Law enforcement background is a plus.

Requirements:

  • Meet or exceed the requirements of the State of TN Dept. of Commerce and Insurance
  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • High School diploma or equivalency
  • Knowledge of campus policies and city, county and state laws
  • Knowledge of effective methods of investigations
  • Knowledge of geographic area of campus
  • Ability to complete reports relating to an incident
  • Ability to ascertain facts by personal contact, observation and the examination of records
  • Basic knowledge of computer operation
  • Clear criminal background with no felonies

Duties:

  • Foot/mobile patrol through college properties
  • Locking and unlocking of doors
  • Investigate suspected crimes, report findings
  • Investigate incidents involving persons or property; report probably cause of incidents; pursue appropriate course of action
  • Issue citations for parking violations
  • Safety inspections of campus properties
  • Evaluate complaint and emergency-request information to determine response requirements
  • Other duties as assigned

Position Opening for:

Assistant Professor–Head of Photography

Memphis College of Art seeks applicants for full-time, long-term, renewable contract appointment for an Assistant (possibly Associate) Professor of Art beginning August 2017. In addition to the pedagogical and technical requirements listed below, the ideal candidate will fit seamlessly into a very supportive faculty who work well together on- and off-campus. MCA’s photography program combines a rigorous foundation curriculum with analog and digital photographic techniques, enhanced by art history and liberal arts coursework in a private, not for profit art school environment. Teaching load is three courses per semester plus mentoring of up to 10 graduate students. Candidate will be responsible for teaching analog and digital photography and printing, studio lighting, alternative processes, social documentary and professional practices for photographers. The Candidate will also advise students, manage budgets, develop curriculum, recruit students, serve on committees, conduct assessment, oversee photography labs and studios, and supervise student lab monitors and adjunct and graduate teaching assistant photography instructors. Faculty development funds are available to enrich the faculty’s teaching and research.

Qualifications: 

  • An MFA in Photography (or 18 credits of graduate level photography coursework) is required by the date of appointment.
  • College-level teaching experience beyond TA, and significant record of artistic achievement required.
  • The successful candidate will have a primary focus in photography and the ability to teach: a full range of traditional photographic processes including black and white 35mm, medium format, large format, and alternative processes; digital photography including SLR and medium format digital cameras and wide format printing.
  • Experience working with graduate students is preferred.

Adjunct Instructors for Art Education Programs

Requirements: Terminal degree (EdD, or PhD) in either education or art education with a strong background in K-12 art instruction to meet SACSCOC, NCATE and Tennessee State Board of Examiner’s requirements. Candidates must be effective in communication; have strong organizational and writing skills, be willing to work in the evening and possibly in the summer months; and be open to evaluation and critique.

Community Education Instructor

Memphis College of Art seeks Community Education Instructors for the Summer of 2017. Instructors report to the Director of Community Education and is primarily responsible for providing visual arts instruction for youth and/or non-degree-seeking adults.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Plans, prepares and implements visual arts courses for youth and/or non-degree-seeking adults
  • Understands and applies best practices in art education
  • Provides a safe environment for students
  • Interacts with students, parents and the public on behalf of CE department
  • Demonstrates the proper use of facilities, equipment, supplies and resources
  • Complies with safe studio practices and EPA/OSHA regulations

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Participates in program evaluation
  • Reviews and retains student records
  • Records student attendance
  • Completes required in-person training
  • May be required to assist with installation of student exhibitions
  • Performs other various duties as may be assigned

REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge and Experience:

  • BFA in visual art (MFA or MAT preferred)
  • Background in art and/or art education preferred
  • A minimum of 2 years teaching experience or public program experience
  • Understands and promotes student learning outcomes in youth development or lifelong learning
  • Current adult and/or pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED certification preferred
  • Experience in customer service, communication and working in a team environment preferred

Physical:

Frequently lifts, carries or otherwise moves and positions objects weighing up to 25 pounds. Typically bends, stoops and crouches on a regular basis. Constantly moves about to coordinate work. Frequently reaches with hands and arms. Frequently communicates, verbally and in writing. Requires ability to talk, hear and see.

Environmental:

While performing the job the employee may be exposed to fumes or odors related to art materials and processes. The noise level is occasionally moderate to loud.

Other:

Must be able to participate in online video-based training. Must pass a national criminal background check.
