Jill Wissmiller is a Midwestern farmer’s daughter transplanted to the Mid-South, where she is department head and associate professor of Digital Media at the Memphis College of Art. Wissmiller’s research and creative work is concerned with nontraditional cinema spectatorship and production. She is currently writing a motion picture manifesto that calls for a strict ban of standard definition video being projected upon anything other than glitter. Her video work has been screened at a variety of venues both nationally and internationally, including Palm Springs International Short Film Festival, Moscow International Film Festival, and Electrofringe New Media Arts Festival Australia. Most recently, one of Wissmiller’s glittered video portraits, The Gilding of Lily, was selected by the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery to be included in the Outwin Boochever Portrait Competition 2013.
